Voices of Recovery Supported National Recovery Month 2010!
National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month 2010

Year after Year, San Mateo County joins National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery
Month with the Recovery Happens celebrations and events throughout the county and witnesses tremendous success and commitment from the communities across the county. The month-long observance assists us to champion and celebrate individuals and families in recovery, communities, treatment providers and officials in support of recovery and wellness.
On September 1st, the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Recovery Commission recognized the extraordinary service of David Lewis in the recovering community. The Commission will be presenting an annual award in his name, which will be presented every September in celebration and support of Recovery Month. This year the award was presented to David’s family in his honor.
The 2nd annual Recovery Happens March and Picnic on September 14th kicked-off at the Bridges Program with a breakfast, then headed to Board of Supervisors for the declaration of the Proclamation for September as “Recovery Happens Month” in San Mateo County. Our AOD Treatment Providers accepted the Proclamation and Christina M. and Daniel L. proudly shared their personal recovery stories and gratitude.
The recovering community and supporters then hit the streets with colorful positive signs and cheers and marched from the county courtyard to Red Morton Park. Over 350 people arrived at the park to join the festivities planned for the day.
Travis Sweeney and Nikki Adams helped spread the word on PenTV. To see their interview: http://vimeo.com/14198071. Also, below is a link to John de Miranda's interview about recovery: http://vimeo.com/12055522
We wrapped up the month with a recovery meeting and dance on September 25th. Much went into the planning of these events, so please join me in a HUGE applause for those who helped in the planning to truly appreciate Recovery in San Mateo County! Individuals and organizations are invited to join and partner with Voices of Recovery us as it grows. Volunteers are encouraged to contribute their voice and expertise as we develop programs, partnerships and infrastructure.
